Giant Knotweed

This lovely spray of seeds nearly poked my eye out so I can only figure it was demanding to be sketched. It is the Giant Knotweed and it a loose leafy shrub thing on bamboo-like stems. In the summer it blossoms fragrant flowers that stick up in panicles and you can get the idea from the way the seeds are arranged above the stem. It grows quite tall so when I first smelled the blooms in the summer, I couldn't see what was making such a nice fragrance as it was all happening way over my head (as usual). From my book of plants, I gather it is considered a weedy shrub and no doubt a nuisance.

Oh, I found another great "fungi" name..."Dog Vomit Slime Mold". How's that? Thought you'd like to know that one.
