If I’m not outside sketching in nature, then I try to wrestle a painting into life in the studio.

My nature sketchbooks are a collection of notes, involving what happens around me in a continuous journey through the seasons as tracking phenology is a fascinating process. The sketches move between loose and gestural to detailed and analytical sometimes with more writing and sometimes containing no writing at all.

I’d rather be out sketching than touching screens, so ye shall findeth not the social media buttons.

Though in the rainy season, here in the Pacific Northwest, it is nice to hunker down in the studio.
